I’m a writer and academic currently in the process of an interesting career change. My doctoral dissertation, The Discomposed Mind, considers the mental processing of literary texts which demand complex and contradictory visualisations; by employing autostereograms and metaphors of disordered minds, along with other literary techniques, my creative writing explores these interests further. I have many ideas on developing and expanding my work, but not within an English department – therefore, I’m currently retraining in psychology.

I’ll be using my website to blog about the experience of making this change in an academic landscape that makes genuinely interdisciplinary work challenging. I’ll also reflect on my experience of learning to program in R and to carry out statistical analyses of data. Given my training in the humanities, I imagine I’ll venture into musings on the philosophy of computer science and mathematics as well.
